Acknowledgement of country News headlines with Cait Kelly In episode 7 of Liberation Loops, Carly speaks with Anna Carlson about how surveillance operates in so-called Australia and how it's operating amidst COVID-19.Anna Carlson is a cofounder and organiser of the Brisbane Free University, co-host of 4zzz's Radio Reversal and a freelance radio producer, illustrator, writer and community (dis)organiser. She is mid way through her PhD, supervised by Dr. Alissa Macoun, Associate Professor Chelsea Bond, Dr. Liz Strakosh, and Dr. David Singh. Her research examines the relationship between surveillance and colonial governance in (so-called) Brisbane, focusing on how surveillance functions to produce and maintain settler colonial regimes of possession, ownership and belonging. Victoria’s only free legal service for the LGBTIQ community will host the first ever virtual Change Your ID Day this Monday 18 May. Sam Elkin speaks with Max about the upcoming live online session, which will provide practical information on how trans and gender diverse people can change their name and preferred sex descriptors on legal identification documents. (note more tix to be released soon) Neika Lehman, a writer and artist living and working on Kulin Country, reads a number of poems. Neika grew up in Tasmania | lutruwita and descends from the Trawlwoolway peoples of north east Tasmania. Their ancestral and contemporary stories inform Neika’s written and visual practice. We hear the second part of Scheherazde’s conversation with Dr Shakira Hussein is a writer and academic in multiculturalism and Muslim studies at the National Centre for Excellence in Islamic Studies, University of Melbourne. Last week Shakira spoke about the intersection of race, islamophobia and COVID19, this week she discusses the dynamics of race, class and the far-right within the settler colony. Priya Speaks with Raj Patel, a former university cleaner stood down during COVID-19 and member of the United Workers' Union, about the Australian Universities Support Your Cleaners petition.
