In this episode of Off the Boards, redshirt junior wide receiver Javon Ivory joins GoTigers247.

Javon is a redshirt junior who has been with the program for three years. Javon goes into detail on how spring camp and summer workouts are going for the Tiger team. Javon speaks to how his veteran presence is allowing him to take a leadership role with the team, and how he is proud to be in that role for the team. His main goal for the team is to grow closer together and achieve their goals. His main point of leadership is to share with the younger guys to always be consistent in how they prepare and train their bodies and their minds.

Javon shared how the offense is growing in incremental amounts under new offensive coordinator, Tim Cramsey. He explains how much he enjoys learning and growing under Tim Cramsey, and how Coach Cramsey brings a bunch of juice to the team during workouts.

Javon spent a lot of time talking about the importance of developing the mental maturity as a young man and also a football player. He believes that mental growth is of utmost importance, and committed himself to spending a lot of time during this offseason to grow mentally. His main goal is to stay consistent each and every day, bringing energy at a high level. Javon shares how his first two years at Memphis were riddled with times of "being afraid to fail." He describes how this overwhelming fear caused him to shrink back when anything negative would happen to him. He described how the death of his beloved grandmother made him flip a switch to be all about positivity in his life. He shares how the lessons his grandmother taught him throughout childhood has been cemented in his brain since her passing, and how he is motivated to not allow her death to lead him down a bad path. Javon describes this as a "switch flipping" in his brain during this offseason, and how those bad habits of reacting negatively to adversity is something he has spent a lot of time working on.

In the second segment, Javon describes his play style as a "big body" receiver. He enjoys being physical off the line, but also relishes opportunities to chase after a long ball. His goal is to be a receiver that can be used all over the field, and in any down or distance. He shares his thoughts on the very talented QB1 at Memphis, Seth Henigan. He admires the mental focus that Seth has, even at a young age, and is excited to see how he will develop this year.
