We recorded this particular episode in the morning, so pay no mind to the possible sleepiness in David's voice. In this episode, we meet Mr. Nancy, the trickster spider God of African lore, whose introduction is thrilling for people who like great TV, and greatly upsetting who do not like extreme close ups of giant spiders. The show starts its first major departure from the book as we see Shadow go from non-reactive block of stone (book) to guy who freaks out way too fast, way too soon. Musings on the intricacies of goddess worship via lesbian sex, awkward holidays with drunk uncles, and long, boring, high stakes checkers matches round out the rest of the episode.
