Bridgett Leslie has found an important story in the middle of the Brazilian Amazon, tracking down a journalist and, in turn, he tracked down Francisco Piyako the chief of the indigenous people known as the Ashaninka. They live in Rio Amônia (Amonia River) on Indigenous Lands, in Acre state western Brazil... That’s over 3200 lm from the Sao Paulo epicenter, but it is clear the tribal Chief was aware very early about the pandemic and moved to phyysically isolate and protect his people as his father and grandfather traditionally had done. He describes it this interview with Journalist Fabio Pontes, which we have had translated from Portuguese.
