I have a lot of interesting acquaintances. I first met Clenora Hudson Weems probably 27 years ago when she first came to the University of Missouri. We were in a carpet store. Since she has never met a stranger, we struck up a conversation. I bumped into her many times over the years. I primarily knew her as having great yard sales. My wife and I like to go to yard sales and estate sales. When Clenora had a yard sale, there was always great stuff to look at, and interesting conversation. At some point I saw an article about her in the local news and realized she had done groundbreaking work on the Emmett Till case, Africana Womanism, and more. It goes to show you, you never know who you’re saying hello to in the grocery aisle, until you find out.
