Part 3 Of A Series On The Benefits Of Meditation: Discover the Intense Emotional Benefits Of Meditation.
In the first two parts of this series, we discussed the effects of meditation on mental and physical health. Today we will look at the emotional benefits of meditation. Definitely one of the emotional health activities that should be practiced is meditation. Another name for this heard today is mindfulness. Once you begin a regular practice you will definitely experience all the benefits of daily meditation. I believe that emotional health, as one of the paybacks of your efforts, is one of the most important aspects of a full rounded individual and a happy life.
The World Health Organization says “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” There is much empirically evidence that supports the fact of all the emotional benefits of mindfulness.
MEDITATION AND STRESS RESEARCH
There are many scientifically proven benefits of meditation. Research also backs the concept that mindfulness meditation decreases emotional reactivity. With regards to the health benefits of meditation what the newest research shows, in a study of people who have created a mindfulness meditation practice, researchers found that mindfulness meditation practice helped people immensely. They discovered that they would disengage from emotionally upsetting pictures and enabled. This would allow them to focus better on tasks than those who did the same things but did not meditate (Ortner et al., 2007).
Here are some more emotional well being examples:
- Relationship satisfaction.
- Reduced rumination (over thinking or thinking at length about something).
- Stress reduction.
- Boosts to working memory capacity.
- More cognitive flexibility.

Some of the other benefits of a Mindfulness practice have been shown to have a positive effect on self-insight, morality, intuition and fear modulation, all roles related with the brain’s middle prefrontal lobe area.
All in all, it is quite evident that meditation has a positive effect on enhancing your quality of life. It will help you become more; happier, not as stressed, better boundaries, less fear & anxiety, resilient to change, can regulate emotions, improved relationships, compassion & empathy, reduced cortisol response, employs self-awareness & emotional centers of the brain.
It’s still an open question whether or how meditation helps people to deconstruct the self and be mindful of sensations in the present moment, but we have some hints.

- Showed improved efficiency in their ability to pay attention
- Reduced reports of negative emotion
- Increased reports of positive affect
- no improvement in general intelligence.
