His music can best be described as American roots music; impressively loyal to rock’n’roll and rockabilly traditions, but boasting more modern arrangements and production techniques. I’m finding myself struggling with mixed feelings on this one: JD’s talent shines through in waves on this record, but I’m not finding too many reasons to spin this record instead of picking up my dusty single of Fats Domino’s "Blueberry Hill." I have no doubt that I’d have a ball-and-a-half at this guy’s live set, but I’m a little lukewarm on it as a record.
