Hij bezocht een opleiding diermanagement, sprak met met Martin Gaus, hij was bij de plechtige crematie van Dicky, de 8-jarige Rottweiler met een moeilijk jeugd, deed een cursus thelepatisch communiceren met huisdieren, en nog veel meer. Met de serie ‘Het gelukkige huisdier’ won radiomaker Gerrit Kalsbeek De Tegel 2008, jaarprijs voor de journalistiek, in de categorie ‘achtergrond’.
