Statements Christians Believe
- God helps those who help themselves.
This a false statement many grew up with this is self-indulging including myself, let’s look at (Matthew 16:24).
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
- God wants me to be happy.
Okay people God is not personal genie. Let’s be real God wants us to be obedient to Him, trust Him and know that everything He does is for our good, even if it doesn’t make me feel “happy” in that moment. Let’s look at” (Romans 8:28). 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
- We’re all God’s children.
Yes, God has created everyone … however if they have not. repented of sin and placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and possess the Holy Spirit of God inside of them they cannot claim Him as their Father: let’s look at several verses (Romans 8:15b–16). 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Ephesians 2:1-2 King James Version (KJV) 1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: so you can understand if those who do not have Jesus as their Savior, nor have the Holy Spirit of God inside of them, actually belong to Satan:
okay let’s look at 1 John 3:10 King James Version (KJV) 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
- Cleanliness is next to godliness.
The people around you may appreciate you being clean and not stinky bad body order, but this is not Scripture. Maybe some Parents used this statement to motivate their children to bath and to clean their rooms. Lest just read (Exodus 20:12). “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you”
- God won’t give you more than you can handle or bare. Let’s be real none of us can handle all of life ups and downs: However, if we just give it up unto Jesus things will be just fine. Check these verses out
“For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself” (2 Corinthians 1:8). “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
- We all worship the same God.
Yes, there is only one true and living God: “Know therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other” (Deuteronomy 4:39). However, He only accepts worship that comes through Jesus Christ, not Muhammad, Buddha, Joseph Smith, etc.: “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
- "Hate the sin, love the sinner."
Although this is a biblical-sounding admonition, it is not directly from the Bible. It’s a loose quote of something Mahatma Gandhi wrote in 1929, “Hate the sin and not the sinner.” Augustine expressed a similar thought back in AD 424: “With love for mankind and hatred of sins.” The biblical principle backing this up is found in Jude 1:22–23. We are to hate sin—even our own. And we are to show love to other people. The “hating sin” part is coming under fire today as more and more people define themselves by their sin and resent the guidelines God has given us in His Word. "The lion shall lay down with the lamb."
Although Jesus is both the Lion of Judah and the Lamb of God (Revelation 5), this phrase does not appear in the Bible. Isaiah 11:6says, "And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little boy will lead them." Similarly, Isaiah 65:25reads, "The wolf and the lamb will graze together and the lion will eat straw like an ox…" The sentiment reads true, however—hunter and prey will be reconciled and live in peace in the eternal kingdom.
9"This too shall pass."
This is a misinterpretation of a line from "The Lament of Doer," an Old English poem. Doer has been replaced as his lord's poet and calls to mind several other Germanic mythological figures who went through troubled times. Each refrain ends with, "that passed away, so may this." Several verses in the Bible remind us that our lives and, indeed, heaven and earth will pass away (Matthew 24:35). But while we can find comfort knowing that our earthly sorrows are temporary, we're still called to rejoice in our trials, knowing that they will lead to endurance and sanctification (James 1:2-4).
