Who Is Jesus To You?

Luke 9:18-20
18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? 19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. 20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

Jesus was asking the disciples who they thought He was. Most of them had been with Him from the beginning. They had seen the lame walk, the blind see, the dead raised to live again. They had seen the multitudes fed, and they had heard the wisdom and faith of Jesus first hand. So He asked them who do you say that I Am?

I ask you today. Who is Jesus to you? The majority here I assume believe in Jesus Christ, and you claim to be followers of Him. Who is Jesus to you?

Today we were asked if any had a testimony or prayer request. I believe that all who call themselves followers of the Lord Jesus Christ should always have a petition to the Lord, or a testimony of praise. The Lord is always willing to hear from His people, but we must come with a heart that is for Him.

I. Who do you say Jesus is?

Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

a) Is He Lord of your life?

Many who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ have a distant relationship with Him. The relationship is distant because we choose to ignore the Word of God and make excuses for the sin that is in our lives. When watch, listen, or participate in activities that are not honoring to God, we are deliberately choosing to turn our back on Him. Willful sin will cut off all communication with the Lord.

Jesus never leaves us! It’s always us who choose to walk away from Him.

Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

It’s always us who choose our will over His.

Psalms 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Un-confessed sin will place a barrier between you and the Lord. God will not and cannot accept compromise from His people. The Lords holiness will not allow iniquity, and wickedness to linger.

1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

What are you saying Dan follow a bunch of rules??? No just be honest with yourself and with God because your soul depends on it.

Romans 12:1-2 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Many churches in the United States are powerless because they have compromised God’s Word and the people attending they do not know who Jesus Christ is!

2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

1 Samuel 3:3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

The ark of God! The presence of God, the light in the temple was to burn always!!! It’s a representation of the Holy Spirit!!!

We are the walking, living, and breathing temple’s of the Lord, and the fire should be burning bright in us!!!

When we choose to watch, or listen, or participate in activities that are not honoring to God, we are deliberately choosing to turn our back on Him.

We live in dangerous times, and now is not the time to be straying from the Lord.

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Every since the day that the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified dead and buried and rose again on that 3rd day, Satan’s days were numbered!!!

Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Who do you say Jesus is?

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

I’m not saying that we can’t enjoy our time here on earth, but we better do a self evaluation as to the things that we allow into our life, and find to be such of importance, and things that we hold to be our treasures.

Matthew 6:19-22 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

If Jesus is Lord of your life, compromise is not an option for you. When you are in direct contact with the Lord in prayer, and in His Word on a daily basis, you will be guided by the Holy spirit of God, and whenever you are tempted to sin you will instantly receive a nudge from the Holy Spirit that says don’t do that!

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Your daily dose of reading and praying to the Lord will feed you spiritually and guide you in all truth.

When Jesus is Lord of your life, you’re willing to submit yourself to him and forsake the desires of the flesh.

What is compromise in a Christian’s life?

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

If you have a television in your home, whether it’s hooked up by an antenna or you have cable television. My advice to you is to get rid of it!

If you use the internet at your home, I advise you to get multiple filters, and set it up in a place where the whole house can see what you’re viewing.

Listen the war is on and the prize is your soul!!!

1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

You might think that’s a little too much?

If you’re struggling in sin, you will continue to struggle, and your walk with the Lord will not and cannot get better.

If Jesus is Lord of your life, you must be willing to forsake it all!

Matthew 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

We have to be willing to give all of our time, all of our strength, and all that we have to the Lord as a living sacrifice.

I’m giving you the truth.

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

It’s God’s will for you to offer Him 100% of your life today.

Who is Jesus to you?
II. Can others see Jesus in you?

Matthew 5:13-16 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Is your light shining today? Are you still excited about the things of the Lord as when you first believed?

The problem with most of today’s churches and the Christians that attend them is that the majority of them are spiritually dead, and they have lost their saltiness, their savor, and the unction to preserve the world and stand up for the things of God.

The Devil has taken the fight out of you, and you won’t pray for your lost family members, and friends, you wont witness in the stores and on the job, and you can just sit day after day and hour upon hour not laboring for the Lord, while all of these people are on the way to Hell.

The excuse that I’m just quiet, or that’s part of our geological culture is nonsense!

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

That’s not what Dan Roller says, it’s what the Word of God says, and it applies still today!

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Many of those who claim to follow Jesus Christ are ashamed of Him.

Matthew 10:32-33 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

a) Are you choosing to bow your head and pray in public before eating?

Listen we can attend church all of our life and have the best attendance out of everyone in our congregation, but if all we do is attend church and there is no praying for the lost, or reaching out in fellowship and being encouragement to others, then we had better search ourselves and our hearts.

It is possible to lose your saltiness and you will be non effective for the Kingdom of God. You will be good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled on.

We must cause ourselves to become an impact on the world for Jesus Christ. We must shine our lights so that the lost can see our joy in the Lord.

If Christianity is just attending a building and fellowshipping with those who we are comfortable to associate with then we have lost the call church!

Luke 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

The truth will bring division. It will cause you to make a choice, and we as the body of Christ have to lay down our wills and come together to for one common goal, and that goal is Jesus Christ.

John 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him.

Seeking Jesus Christ and taking a stand for Him will always bring division when the desire for sin is present.

Matthew 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

We can try in the flesh to add this new way to our service or to bring these people in to show us how to get God to move in our churches. We can have the greatest worship team and have all of the devices that money can buy. We can use all the methods of the world to bring the people to our church, but the key thing here is allowing the Lord Jesus Christ to have dominion in our lives.

If people see Jesus in us that’s enough for them to question what we are doing that their not. Hard times don’t discriminate, they come to us all. When we’re in prayer for the lost, the Lord will provide opportunity for us to bring glory to His name.

When other’s see you do they see Jesus?

III. Does Jesus know you?

Are you seeking Him daily? It’s not enough to just claim to know Him. Millions of people claim to know Jesus, but the majority only knows of Him.

God is omnipresent, He knows all things, but does He know you as His child? Are you bought by the Blood of Jesus Christ? Have you made Him your personal savior?

Are you going about His business?
Are you laboring for Him daily?
Is He Lord of your life?
Do others see Him in you?

Luke 18:18-23 18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. 20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. 21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. 22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

This person was rich not only physically but in a sense religiously too.
He knew of God and His Word, but he was not willing to give all that he had and to lay down his life and follow Jesus.

Many of you sitting here today have chosen to only know of the things of God but not go all the way and sacrifice your desires and wants and totally sell out to God.

You will never really know Him and He will never really know you.

Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Knowing Jesus and Him knowing you requires a personal relationship with Him.

Matthew 7:20-27 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

The storm of life is here and now, and the only true shelter is in the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. There is no man , no system, no religion that can save you, but only Jesus Christ and a real personal relation ship with Him.

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Jesus is knocking today on the door of your heart, but there will come a time when the knocking will stop.
