Welcome to Westerly Waves, where we meet the people and organizations that make Westerly and the surrounding area a better place.
This week we meet Chris Phillips, President of Community 2000 Education Foundation, an organization that provides scholarships to students and grants to teachers and education based groups. They provide almost $100,000 per year in scholarship funds in conjunction with the Westerly College Club and the Chariho Rotary Club.
Between the three organizations they provide scholarships to students at Westerly High, Chariho High, Stonington CT High, Exeter-West Greenwich High and others in the towns of Westerly, Charlestown, Richmond, Stonington, and West Greenwich.
The Educational Grant program is broken into two segments, Innovative Projects and Strategic Projects. Innovative project funds are provided to teachers and groups to help initiate and run programs that bring innovation to teaching. Strategic Program funds are used to make a positive impact on the basics, reading, Writing and Arithmetic, and for teacher development.
Thee Community 2000 Education Foundation does two fundraisers a year. One is a golf outing that takes place on September 11, 2017 and the other is a Virtual Masters Golf Tournament which takes place on April2nd, 2017 at the Weekapaug Golf Club.
