Today I sit down with my older brother Danny. Danny is the biological brother of my sister Gena, whom you’ll remember from Episode 1, and Dawn whom you’ll meet later. He continues their story of being removed from one family and talks about his own journey going through multiple foster homes and then eventually being reunited with Gena & Dawn.
I’ll admit, I have always had stronger relationships with my sisters than I have had with any of my brothers. As kids we were close but once middle school came around I found myself on my own path. I didn’t know how to use a skateboard, I got bored of Boy Scouts and I had zero interest in girls. I didn’t relate to my brothers, this feeling continued until this interview.
Talking to him felt like I was meeting him for the first time and that made me feel guilty. I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve kept my distance from him solely based on a lot of the negative things I would hear about him. I’d like to stay that all of that changes now but I’m not sure if will. I just know that moving forward I want to make more of an effort.
Danny surprised me in a really positive way and I’m glad he was able to share his story with me.
