Luke 10:38-40—Sitting at Jesus’ Feet - Part I Lesson 1: ________________ to Jesus is more important than ______________ to Jesus (Luke 10:33-36). Lesson 2: (Part I) The ________ sanctifies (Part II) but ______________ might not (Luke 10:38-40, 42; John 17:17; Eph 5:25-27; 1 Pet 2:2; 2 Tim 3:16-17; Eph 4:11; Rom 10:17; Matt 28:19-20; John 15:5; Rev 3:1). Lesson 3: We need to sit at Jesus’ feet when we are: Part I: ______________________ (Luke 10:39). Part II: Filled with ________-________ (Luke 10:40). Part III: ____________ ______________ by others (Luke 10:40). Part IV: Frustrated with ______ ________ (Luke 10:40). Family Worship Guide Memory Verses: Phil. 1:21 Day 1: Read Luke 10:38-42 and discuss: Who are Mary and Martha? Where else does Mary show up in the Gospels? What is she doing each time? How would you feel if you were in Martha’s shoes? If you were honest, what are you more inclined to: frantic anxiety to get important things done or prioritizing time with Jesus in His Word (even amidst long to-do lists)? What one practical change could you make this week to prioritize your devotional life with Jesus while still being a servant? Day 2: Read Luke 10:38-42 and discuss: In light of the previous lesson about Mary’s “better” choice, why should you prioritize the Bible everyday? What does the Bible reveal about itself and its effect on our lives? Getting an elevated view of this chapter, what is the significance of this passage’s placement coming right after The Good Samaritan? Day 3: Read Luke 10:38-42 and discuss: Consider yourself, prayerfully. Pray prayers such as Psalm 139:23-24. Ask God to show you the moments when you should have turned to Him, and His Word, but you didn’t. Confess any sins you are convicted of. Brainstorm creative ways to have God’s Word at your fingertips and before your eyes (posting it around your home, car, or office; carrying a small stack of notecards with you; following those on social media who use God’s Word well and rightly when they seek to encourage others, etc.) Think honestly: when was the time you served and one of the results was joy (which is spiritual - NOT ‘natural’ - fruit). Describe the situation - be specific. Write out one brief “cry” to God, based on something you see in the Psalms. Commit this brief plea to memory and call it to your mind throughout the day, each day. Take note of the differences that come into your life because of your scripture memory. What is different a month from now, since you have been consistently and faithfully pulling the sword of the Spirit out of your heart and through your mind and mouth? Pray for those who lead, feed, and care for the flock, and their families (Col. 4:3, 2 Thess. 3:1): Scott LaPierre & Randy Hanson Pray for these church members / families: (1 Tim. 2:1, Eph. 6:18, Col. 1:9): Pat Knecht, Jerry & Julie Kiekow, John & Donna LaPierre, Scott & Katie LaPierre, Danny & Jill Lee Pray for “kings” and those in authority (1 Tim. 2:2): Local: Woodland Mayor Will Finn; State: State Rep. Richard Debolt; Nation: Vice President Mike Pence Pray for the Gospel to Spread Among All Peoples (Matt. 9:37-38): Those we directly support: Andy & Karina Smith (Uganda) An Unreached People Group: Mangrik (Buddhism, India)
