Clean and Optimize Your WordPress Site
We need to occasionally (maybe 2-4 times per year) clean out some of the crud that’s stored in our WordPress sites.
Here are some suggestions on things to do for fall cleaning.
- Remove unused plugins and themes
- Make sure everything is updated
- Remove extra post revisions with Optimize Database after Deleting Revisions
- Use Media Cleaner to clean up your media library
- Optimize images with Jetpack, EWWW Image Optimizer, Compress JPEG & PNG images, or Smush Image Compression and Optimization.
- Update your users. Make sure to remove any unnecessary ones.
- Install Broken Link Checker and remove any broken links.
- WP-Optimize can help to optimize your WordPress database.
- The WP Asset CleanUp will make sure only necessary files are loading on each page load.
- Remove spam comments with Spam Comments Cleaner
- Remove any unused categories or tags.
- Do a content audit to remove any posts or page that are outdated.
- Use Hide Unwanted Shortcodes to hide broken shortcodes, but remove them with the site audit.
- HTML Cleanup can be used to strip out unnecessary HTML from posts or pages.
