Years of experience and care go into producing an organic product bought in grocery stores today. And, for chemical farms, at least 3 years to revitalize the soil to an organic state.

To be considered organic, involves an intense, detailed process of rules, product standards, certifications, recordkeeping, and among a few other requirements, immense care for the land.

Joan and John have operated under an organic certification on their blueberry farm for over 40 years. Beginning their work in organic farming working with the Organic Growers of Michigan- one of the very first organic groups in the entire U.S.

As consumers, we might read labels at a grocery store, and choose to purchase organic products versus non-organic products.

But, often don't reflect on the story and attentiveness that went into making those products available to us.

Personally, for Troy, the journey into learning where food comes from, and the appreciation for those that grow it, began only a few years ago. And, with daily reflections, continues to slowly evolve into an understanding that he can then teach his kids.

Knowing all the intricate details of producing a blueberry might feel unnecessary. We can first learn to evolve our learning through reflection and gratitude of the foods we eat.
