"You have the right to work, but for the work's sake only. You have no right to the fruits of work. Desire for the fruits of work must never be your motive in working. Never give way to laziness, either." -Bhagavad Gita Commit to the work is what you will hear from anyone who has crossed the finish line of an Ironman distance triathlon. What you may not hear is the deeper wisdom of doing the work for the sake of the work and not for the fruits of your actions. A practice in present moment awareness of completing what is in front of you without attachment or entitlement of reward is the difference between a triathlete and a YogiTrathlete. It is the difference between mastery and immaturity of the mind. It is the difference between success and failure and I'm not talking about if you cross the finish line or not. I'm talking about a skillful ability to remain the same in pleasure and pain and even-tempered in success and failure. This is what is meant by the teachings of yoga. This doesn't mean that you are not competitive or fast or kick ass, it means that you can be all of those things without the selfish attachment to those labels that cause suffering for ourselves and others. On the show today we have two very competitive, fast and kick ass YogiTriathletes who recently threw down their mastery on the Ironman Arizona course. Jesse Davern, soul partner to Monica Davern (our resident vegan pediatrician and podcast guest of episode 69), and Coach BJ, one of the vital heartbeats behind YT, sit down in this episode to flesh out their long course experiences. Despite Jesse being a first-timer and BJ being an eleven-timer their challenges and success are similar. Ironman has a way of leveling the playing field making it no easier for the person who wins over the person who claims the final finisher title. They dive into listener questions and so much more. Training prep, nutrition, navigating the tough times and the benefits of meditation for the athlete mind (YES!). There is a drive that Ironman creates within and these two guys are definitely following that calling. This is a deeply insightful look at what it takes to prepare, compete and finish this type of triathlon. Thank you so much for tuning in, we have some amazing guests lined up for you guys and we appreciate your support. We are actively building our Patreon community so please consider becoming a supporter to help keep this show coming to you every single week.
