Meet my new friend, Nishta Mehra! I know you won't want to miss our compelling conversation on this week's show all about transracial adoption. Nishta and her partner, Jill have a son, Shiv who was adopted domestically and who is African American. Nishta wrote an article appearing in Guernica in March 2015 entitled, The Color of My True Love's Hair is Black," on transracial adoption in 'post-racial' America. In this article she explores the challenges of a transracial family and how to deal with this on a daily basis. Nishta was raised in Memphis, Tennessee as a first generation Hindi, born in the United States. Dealing with racism is not new to her; however the challenges she now faces raising her African American son with her partner who is caucasian have compelled her to write this article. Her honesty, apparent anger and frustration definately come out, but you can't deny how important this subject is when so many of us are transracial families. Check it out!
