YPO member Rafiq Jumabhoy, an Oxford graduate, rose up in the family business and demonstrated his ability to transform an entire industry. Rafiq is currently the chairman of Orkney Holdings, a management consulting company, providing strategic management and implementation services for family businesses and for real estate related businesses, including government-linked enterprises, corporations and financial institutions with clients all over the globe.

Back in the 90s, Rafiq was CEO of Singapore’s then largest Indian-family listed corporation, Scotts Holdings, with businesses in shopping centers, serviced apartments and property development along with subsidiaries in Singapore, the UK and Australia. During his tenure, he quadrupled the value of the group and broadened the company’s presence. He also founded Asia’s first branded serviced apartments, The Ascott.

Sadly, family infighting destroyed the entire empire, but Rafiq lived to tell the story in this episode.
