Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, have become #marriagegoals for a lot of fans who see the fun-loving couple tackle life together with lots of laughs on social media. While the childhood sweethearts have a dreamy love story, TR says their successful marriage is the product of a lot of hard work and therapy.

“We’ve been to a lot of therapy, I will say that,” Rhett told Audacy’s Scotty Kay. “For me, just learning to be fully transparent and be able to voice what my expectations are and for her to be able to do the same thing, I feel like you let each other down less when you know what the expectation is.”

Rhett admits that the tools he’s learned in therapy have benefited all relationships in his life and believe they are applicable to any type of relationship and any type of person.

“I think full honesty and transparency is the secret to any relationship. Whether a friend or a mom or a dad or a wife, husband, whatever — full transparency is what’s kind of got us through a lot of times.”

Hear more from TR on therapy, his debut at Chicago’s Windy City Smokeout and so much more by checking out his conversation with Scotty Kay above.
