Episode 7 is a cram packed look at all the knitter news of KAL’s, events and experiments in 2017. Come join me for another chat from the cottage craft room and find out what’s happening near you.

It’s time for you to grab that cuppa and make yourself comfortable. We have around half an hour of crafty goodness with information on the Edinburgh Yarn Festival, Knitgrrl’s latest project and The DKC Knit-along. Now doesn’t that sound like the start of a Happy Friday?

You can also find the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher and Player FM. While you are having a listen, why not leave a review and let me know what you think!

Grow

My garden is sleeping right now and the only ting that looks good is my garlic. I do chat a little about planning in the garden and how we set up our Square foot planting. There is also a chat about the plans for our YouTube channel and what’s in store for the gardening side of the CLN Podcast.

The giant parsnip in question.

As if that wasn’t enough in January, this amazing image has me gobsmacked. I mean it’s a parsnip the size of an adult human arm! This was grown by Fiona’s Dad but there is an amazing piece on how to grow parsnips that you are not going to want to miss over on Fiona Grows Food.

The last bit of info that you may want to keep an eye on is the Bloom in the Park Facebook page. Bloom will be back during the June bank Holiday but keep an eye out for this years plans as they happen.

Craft

A little bit of housekeeping to start and a huge welcome to the new Ravelry group members and if you haven’t joined in pop on over and join the banter. It will be a lot more active in 2017.

EYF2017

The biggest piece of news so far is that we are bringing the podcast to EYF2017 and there is a PodKal. You can find out all the info in this blog post along and team links. If you have any questions just get in touch with me via the contact page, comments section or on any of the social media platforms the links are in the sidebar. If you want the latest information as it happens, then please sign up to the newsletter here.

The DKC Knit-along

The yarn I’m drooling over at the moment is from the fabulous Dublin Dye Company and I’m using it to take part in the year-long DKC KAL. You can find out more about the angry sock god and the KAL in this post. You can find the DKC KAL facebook group here and the pattern I’m knitting at the moment is the fabulous no swatch needed Lifestyle toe up socks.

Knitgrrl

I would love to hear your thoughts on Knitgrrls experiment on Patreon. Knitgrrl aka Shannon Oakley is making the design process and costs involved more transparent is a great thing. If you don’t want to pledge the $4 a month you can, of course, chose to set a monthly limit or just donate to the cause. I did check how much I spent on patterns last year and it was significantly more than the $208 but it was on patterns, magazines, pattern books etc. Let me know what you think in the comments.

There is some chat about Shannon’s fantabulous Twitterbot What Should I Knit. I love seeing it in my timeline and I think you should try it out for a week and see if it brings a spark of inspiration your way.

I also have a brief glimpse at Woollywormheads 2016 in hats and I nod at her amazing photography for her new collection.

Stash Exploration

I share my stash exploration in answer to Jo’s new episode of the Shinybees Podcast. I invite you to listen and take part too. She has an active Podcast group over on Facebook here and she would love to hear from you.

And just in case here is the link I mentioned of my Folded by Veera Valimaki because I know some of you are skimming these notes.

Love

I like to share the podcasts and shows that I find interesting and on today’s episode there are extra special mentions of the following shows:

The Sampler Girl by Tanya Marie

Knit Read Pray by Laura Gesin

Knit British by Louise Scollay

The Sod Show by Peter Donegan
