Hey there Dreamers, Welcome to Dancing On Bandstand: An American Dreams Podcast. This episode I'm discussing the first episode of American Dreams S1E1 The Pilot which aired on September 29, 2002. Meg Pryor's lifelong dream is to dance on the iconic 1960s television series, New American Bandstand 1965 (1952), and along with her adventurous confidante, Roxanne Bojarski, the 15-year-old's persistence pays off when they find themselves on camera, dancing amongst a variety of teen idols. While his younger sister realizes her dreams, J.J. Pryor, questions his own childhood ambitions as he struggles to decide between striving for a Notre Dame football scholarship and making a life-altering change. Family patriarch Jack Pryor, concerned with his children's defiant behavior as well as with his wife Helen's influential new friends, watches his idealistic family buckle under the era's social challenges on the eve of the decade's watershed event. Now it’s time for my Meg’s record collection rating of the week: I’m giving this episode 5 out of 5 records because it was a great start to a series against the backdrop of the 60’s, the music of bandstand, the introduction to the Pryor family along with the event of JFK’s assassination as the world begins to unravel. I had a lot of fun doing this episode granted it took me a while to get through in the future podcast episodes won’t be nearly as long. It was a lot to cover being the first episode a lot of things were going on along with the introduction of characters and side plots. This podcast will continue in September for the 15th anniversary and will most likely be a bi weekly podcast twice a month as I’m currently doing three other podcasts at the moment. Have a great weekend and I will see you in September with all new podcast episodes!
