You don’t hear many devotions on the Song of Solomon. Now I can’t explain the book to you in 90 seconds, but if you’re married or engaged to be married, open up your Bible and check it out. It’s a perfect explanation of the feelings we should have toward a spouse. Now, for those of you who don’t realize it, this is an entire book in the Bible devoted to marital sex. Yes, sex. I think it’s probably a hard pill to swallow for most Christians to admit this book IS a part of the Bible, but God never intended sex to be something that we never talk about. In fact by not having an open and honest conversation about sex with our young adults, we are missing an important opportunity to ensure that our young people don’t get swayed by the devil and end up doing something they regret the rest of their lives. Sex is a gift from God and should be a Holy union between a husband and a wife. It’s a way to both express love and devotion to the one God has blessed you to be with and obviously a way to “be fruitful and multiply” as the God commands of us in Genesis 1:28. So, to those who are engaged, newlywed married but never read it, take time to read Song of Solomon. It’s a tiny little book squeezed between Ecclesiastes and Isaiah. Read it prayerfully with your partner and I’m sure God will enrich your marriage greatly.
