Earthrumental is sister label to Franck Roger’s Real Tone Records, which leans into the more cosmic disco side of the dance spectrum. For its next release the label plays host to Arno E. Mathieu and his summer sunshine sensation ‘Thème du Soleil’ that strikes a balance between elegant French disco, and Italo dream house that wouldn’t be out of place in a set by Don Carlos or Alfredo. Arno E. Mathieu was born under the Provence sun and was raised to the sounds of psychedelia and jazz. Soaking up soundtracks from sci-fi films, Italian westerns, Vangelis & Morricone, he developed a taste for widescreen sonic storytelling. His early years were spent in the studio with DJ Gregory, and in 2005 he stared up Clima Records. The label released with luminaries like Kuniyuki, Franck Roger, Tokyo Black Star, Raoul K, Julien Jabre, and has also been a platform for Arno’s own productions under his original moniker Matt Samo. Joe Clausell took a particular interest in the label and went on to distribute Clima through his Atypical Dopeness, bringing a heightened visibility to Arno Mathieu’s work. He has released on Deeply Rooted, Real Tone, Yoruba, Tribe, with an album on the mighty Compost. Arno’s own tracks have been remixed by Joe Claussell, I:Cube, Beanfield, Julien Jabre, Mark E, Max Essa and by old friend, Franck Roger. Arno E. Mathieu brings us ‘Thème du Soleil’, a sun-drenched beauty that has been ripened in the Provence sun, four ways. Using a sunshine melody - that was originally played by Franck Roger – Arno builds a vibrantly textured tribute to his meandering Mediterranean roots, a real nomadic Balearic journey of Cajon percussion, accordion, folk vibes, driving bassline, and vocal refrain “El Ritmo Del Sol” (the Rhythm of the Sun). The ‘Ultima Baile Version’ is the original in extended form which travels the rolling hills of its Balearic and psychedelic roots, taking time to explore a second guitar chorus by Mike Ciro of Masters At Workfame. The ‘Intensa Versión’ is a concentrated edit that cuts to the sweet spot for more energic club excursions. Closing out, the ‘Casa Version’ skips the intro and outro parts, moving towards the warm and hazy Mediterranean trip of ‘Thème du Soleil’ for a more stripped back daytime sonic experience.
