An architect, designer, and entrepreneur with over 15 years of international experience, Javier Robles draws from his deep architectural knowledge and cultural experience to share with his clients his passion for architecture, design, and art. Whether it’s a high-profile renovation in an urban setting or a cultural center in the desert, Robles always seeks out a design language that’s attuned to the surroundings but that is undeniably his own. Born and raised in Peru, Robles won a scholarship to study architecture and urban design in Brazil. He received his professional degree at the University of São Paulo. After graduation Robles returned to Peru to develop projects based on the region’s vernacular architecture with emphasis on historical and cultural identity. His most accomplished work during these years was the visitor center for the archaeological site of Chan Chan, the ancient capital of the Chimu culture, in Trujillo. Building upon this work, Robles nominated ChanChan to the World Monument Fund Watch List 2014, and now is currently working with the Peruvian government to develop the ‘Zona de Frontera,’ a cultural park along the edge of this endangered world monument site. In 1997 Robles moved to New York and completed a master of science in architecture and design from Columbia University. He worked in different prestigious architectural firms in NYC, designing institutional and commercial projects throughout the USA and abroad. Robles also taught in the Product and Interior Design Department at Parsons The New School for Design. In 2003 Robles was selected by Crains magazine as one of the most promising young professionals of New York City in the annual “40 Under 40” list. Soon after, he moved to London and launched Utopus, UK as a full-time practice, working on residential and commercial projects in London, Paris,Valencia, and other major European cities. With this experience and a broad portfolio of completed international projects, Robles opened the New York office in 2006, where he has been just as prolific In recognition of his distinct style and portfolio of luxury residential projects, he was selected to be on the list of New York Spaces magazine’s Top 50 Designers for 2013, and his work has been widely published globally. In 2013 Robles established Lumifer, a lighting and furniture company focused on the luxury residential and hospitality markets. Late 2015, Robles launched his latest brand, ROBLES, which offers a fully integrated design service for high end interiors, furnishings, and lifestyle. This new venture will attend to the growing demand of his worldwide clientele base. His ability and passion to work in different scales, materials, and contexts—along with his wide-ranging experience—have enabled him to create a unique, contemporary design language that embraces the sophistication and diversity of each of his clients’ lifestyles in whatever their environment.
