This week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast you host Downrigger Dale talks to the Regional Director of the Montana Mule Deer Foundation, Chris Fortune. Rigger and Chris got into a fascinating and at times alarming discussion about the decline of the Mule Deer population in Montana. They cover all kinds of reasons that are contributing to this decline like; the loss of key Mule Deer habitat, the number of CWD cases that have been hitting the population, and the growing population of the Mule Deer’s predators. Now many of you may be thinking it’s the wolf and yes wolves do prey on Mule Deer no doubt, however they tend to focus more on other prey. Director Fortune explains that it is really a couple of other predators that have been doing more damage than the wolf. Which ones are those? Listen now to find out. In fact, Rigger found it interesting that one predator has been kind of flying under the radar since the wolf has been in the spotlight. Rigger also asked Chris about possible solutions to the issues affecting our Mule Deer and what the Mule Deer Foundation is trying to do about all this.
