Bryon Bass is the Archaeology Senior Editor for the Overland Journal and Expedition Portal.
After earning a Ph.D. in archaeology, and enduring years in the corporate archaeological and cultural resource management trenches, Bryon started a consulting company.
Work through the decades has led him to Africa, the Middle East, Europe, South Pacific, and the Americas.
In this profession, overland travel frequently presents as a vocational necessity, rather than a purely adventurous pursuit.
Bryon remains an avid photographer, EMT, and a certified public safety off–pavement vehicle operations instructor.
Admittedly, certain past endeavors like flying single engine planes or skydiving have become distant memories.
He appreciates driving around the greater Santa Barbara area in a 1978 Toyota BJ40, tinkering on vintage motorcycles, and producing small lots of red wine.
Bass occasionally conducts specialized safety courses for workforce deployed to adverse locations, is on a search and rescue team, and serves in a law enforcement diving unit.
