To be a successful fleet technician, you not only need to diagnose and fix various problems with engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, but also the determination to silence the bangs and clangs and hone in on the mechanical detail of a 60,000 pound machine. At this year's ATA TMCSuperTech, the nation's premier skills competition for commercial vehicle technicians, a room full of 418 left-brainers did just that - showing that they had the stuff to be special. What did the experts see in this year's field? What needs were the most surprising? Which skills stood out from the rest? Let's find out with those who proctored the exam, Technology and Maintenance Council Chairman Todd Cotier and Mark Zachos, president of DG Technologies.
