Looking for Some Cheap Thermomix Meals?
In Episode 134, we’re in it to win it. To celebrate the launch of The Thrifty Issue of The 4 Blades Magazine, we’re going head to head to win the cheap thermomix meals challenge.
Here are the rules: Both Bec and Joe had 10 (virtual) dollars to spend to create a delicious family-friendly meal without going over the $10 budget.
Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!)
Here are the recipes we came up with:
The BLUE Team (Bec) – Full ‘o’ Veggies Thermomix Curried Sausages
This is a tasty Thermomix twist on an absolute classic with a whole pile of veggies suck in for good measure.
How did the costs work out? (worked out using prices from Coles online)
- 1 garlic clove $0.08
- 1 green apple $0.99
- 1 brown onion $0.54
- 1 carrot carrot $0.43
- 20g olive oil $0.20
- 4 tsp curry powder $0.38
- 8 pack of sausages $4.50
- 400g can of chickpeas 75c
- 400g can of diced tomatoes $1
- 400g pumpkin $1.13
Total = $10.00
$10 on the nose! Like the allocated funds, this recipe squeezes every bit of value out of your Thermomix as well.
When we steamed our sausages the skins came right off which we didn’t expect. We loved it as we wanted to remove the skins before putting them in the curry so another little bonus of Thermomix cooking!
The YELLOW Team (Joe) – Budget Thermomix Meatballs with Sweet Potato Pillows
These Thermomix meatballs are packed full of flavour and go perfectly with spiral pasta to stretch the meal as far as possible.
How did the costs work out? (worked out using prices from Coles online)
- 500g beef mince $3
- 300g sweet potato $1.65
- 2 spring onions $0.50
- 25g balsamic vinegar $0.29
- 90g tomato paste $2
- 15g flour $0.20
- 2 tsp garlic granules $0.20
- 2 tsp paprika $0.20
- 300-400g dried pasta $1
- 20g milk $0.02
Total = $9.06
Weighing in at UNDER $10 this meal is a steal. Just like the blue team, this meal utilises the whole Thermomix which allows for a big delicious dinner for under $10.
