The Global Watch: Israel insists that the Rafah attack is key to defeating Hamas following the October 7 attacks. Yesterday South Africa argued before the International Court of Justice that a full Israeli assault on Rafah would violate the clause of the Genocide Convention that prohibits “deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.” However, our guest Anne Herzberg is of the view that Hamas continues to weaponize the ICJ via South Africa and according to her, the ICJ continues to allow it. She is arguing therefore that Israel should counterclaim against South Africa for incitement to genocide, also stating that countries of conscience should also consider sanctions on South African officials for supporting and hosting Hamas.
