In this episode, I speak to Mila who has been living with LADA (which stands for Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a slow-progressing form of autoimmune diabetes) diabetes since 2020 however Mila was originally diagnosed or misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2016. Mila is a blogger and known advocate in the diabetes online community and is also known as the Hangry Woman. In our chat we speak about:

  • coming to terms with not only a new diagnosis but also a misdiagnosis
  • the difference in conversations Mila experienced when she was in a healthcare setting as a person living with type 2 diabetes in comparison to a person living with LADA
  • culturally appropriate diabetes advice
  • navigating the diabetes world as a black woman
  • making memes with Paul Rudd

The Talking Type 1 podcast is a diabetes podcast by Daniel Newman. Daniel brings to you interviews from members of the diabetes community sharing their journeys of the ups and downs of living with type 1 diabetes. You’ll hear from those who live with type 1 diabetes, provide care to those living with type 1, healthcare professionals and experts in their field.

Daniel will share his insights into his life living with type 1 diabetes. Daniel has lived with the condition along with for over 25 years. He also lives with diabetic retinopathy and received a kidney transplant in 2018.
