Up Close & Personal with Serial Killers, Vonda Pelto, Ph.D. on Extensive Dealings, James Lowe Radio: The author of Without Remorse: The Story of the Woman Who Kept Los Angeles' Serial Killers Alive, Vonda Pelto, Ph.D., did something very few normal people can really imagine: for 3 1/2 years, 1980 to 1984, she dealt with a number of really vicious serial killers and various other high-profile criminals awaiting trial or sentencing at Los Angeles Men's Central Jail. In this segment of the James Lowe Jiggy Jaguar Radio Show, syndicated throughout the Midwest, Vonda talks about the first time she saw the Hillside Strangler, Kenneth Bianchi, who was a handsome and charming man she admits finding very appealing. She brings up some of the details of his crimes as well as those of William Bonin, the Freeway Killer, who tortured, raped and murdered at least 21 young boys between the ages of 12 to 19. Her job was to keep them alive, keep them from harming or killing themselves, talk with them, have coffee and cookies with them and get them to think about anything else for killing themselves before going to trial. Those conversations were frank and William Bonin admitted to Vonda he had no feelings for his victims or empathy for their families. A remorseless, evil man who had more feeling for a chicken and human being.
