Kieran has officially finished his Royal College Exam to qualify as a General Internist; which means, this week is the first of two weeks of replay episodes while he takes a much deserved break! This replay episode features Kieran and Ashley Minuk in discussion on two studies examining therapies in people with diabetes.
Diabetes research is looking sweeter: no longer are clinicians only treating secondary complications of the disease, they are now investigating novel treatments to prevent it from occurring in the first place! Ashley leads the discussion on a randomized controlled trial examining the use of liraglutide in patients who are obese with prediabetes as prevention for the development of Type 2 diabetes.
Next, Kieran turns the conversation to outcomes after bariatric surgery in the treatment of diabetes. For long term glycemic control, is treatment with bariatric surgery plus intensive medical therapy better than medical therapy alone? Listen to find out!
Last, but definitely not least, the Good Stuff segment. What happens to quality of care when patients and caregivers are rude to the healthcare team? Then, how do you like your fecal transplant: frozen, freeze-dried, or fresh?
