SAMURI (NYC) is the multimedia music and performance collective of New York City artists Uri Dalal and Saam 'Ishi' Dalal. Best known for their production work with NYC nightlife legend and collective member Kevin Aviance, veteran DJ Uri Dalal and partner Saam Ishi have also opted to combine their talents in the DJ booth as SAMURI DJs. Uri Dalal is a child of the 1970s Disco era, and grew up combing through the crates of his family owned DJ specialty shop in both Manhattan and Brooklyn - the iconic Music Factory. A drummer prodigy since the age of five, Dalal played in every type of band conceivable, but longed to play dance music. On a whim, a DJ customer asked Uri to cover for him one night, and having no DJ etiquette, he completely slammed the venue with all his favorite tracks and was hired on the spot. He has been DJing professionally ever since, which lead to his chance meeting with Saam who then was working at NYC House Label JVM/Pagoda. The early 2000s saw Dalal and Ishi team up as business partners and their Machine and Rokitronik back to back after hours events in lower Manhattan drew lines down the block on a regular basis, not to mention a great deal of police attention, eventually forcing them to shut down. Dates at Pacha as opener weren’t uncommon but this frustrated Ishi, who would begin managing the career of Dalal. He wasn’t an opening act. They were married in 2007. Always the unique and powerful key music selector for Uri Dalal’s sets, Saam Ishi learned the tools of the trade and now they work side by side, both in the recording studio and DJ booth. Their first single ‘BANG Da Beat!’ on Nervous Records has already received critical acclaim from artists like DJ Hell, Tom Stephan and Hector Romero, who's compilation featuring two remixes of ‘BANG Da Beat!’ stayed at Traxsource's #1 spot for weeks.
