First on the Ladder is a three-year arts-meet-sport project that involves two indigenous sporting clubs, Rumbalara Football Netball Club in Shepparton, Victoria and the Moree Boomerangs in New South Wales. Polyglot Theatre, in collaboration with Beyond Empathy, celebrate the culture and achievements of Aboriginal children and their communities in this project through a range of creative experiences. First On The Ladder uses art-making and sport to strengthen cultural pride and community connection. The project extends the strong traditions and affection for sport through the celebrated teams in both communities, taking place in spaces throughout these communities, using artistic mediums to engage audiences in unexpected ways. First on the Ladder is supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
