There are many people who are considering psychotherapy. They will be wondering if they actually need it; whether it will do them any good; perhaps deciding if they can afford it. Others are trying or have tried self-help. (There are many excellent books that offer ways for people to help themselves in various ways.)Once having decided that therapy would be beneficial, the next step is to find a therapist. Here, different people go about it in different ways; seek advice from their doctor; look at local advertisements; trawl the internet. All of those options are valid. There are many types of therapy. Cognitive Behavioural, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Client-Centred, Transactional Analysis, Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing, Psychoanalysis and related psychodynamic therapies, Gestalt and even Hypnotherapy. That list is by no means exhaustive. In addition we have Counsellors who are great if you need somebody to talk to.
