The quick secession of snowstorms has put a strain on emergency food reserves at the non-profit Citymeals on Wheels program.

Executive Director Marcia Stein said that during extreme weather, they make sure clients receive an extra delivery of non-perishable food, just in case.

"When there is a snowstorm and the trucks cannot get through, or they get delayed, these folks have nothing to eat, so we want to make sure there is always a back-up supply on their shelves."

Stein said the stock of emergency food is nearly depleted at the Citymeals warehouse because of the back-to-back snowstorms and last summer's heat wave.

"We could do one more city-wide delivery. We were planning to do that city-wide delivery in the middle of February, but it looks like we're going to get more snow next week.”

The city funds deliveries of meals during the week, but Citymeals emergency food program is paid for solely through private donations.

Stein said re-stocking the warehouse with non-perishable items for another complete delivery would cost about $200,000.
