This week my guest is Tetox who shares his experience growing up in a family of musicians in Quetzaltenango. In the 1970s his father and uncle, both musicians, had to flee to Mexico. Guatemala’s military regime had made it clear that protest songs would not be tolerated. His father would later return to Guatemala, but stopped playing music until the armed conflict began to calm down. In his youth Tetox developed a passion for music. He’s learned several instruments and has played with different groups including Los Barbasonicos.
