Zoe George and Sophie Devine have another great line up of guests and stories this month discussing everything from team selection to sport’s journalism and mental health to potty parity. Sport’s journalist Melodie Robinson is a familiar face to sports fans in New Zealand. The former Black Ferns player can be found in front of the camera fronting coverage of men’s rugby. Along with fellow journalist, Rikki Swannell, who has been a guest on this podcast, they have created The W Group to empower women in sport and media to achieve their goals. Sophie tell us what it means to her to be selected for this summer’s Cricket World Cup after recovering from injury making this her 81st appearance for the White Ferns, and 21 year old Thamsyn Newton stops by to talk about returning to the squad for her ninth cap. As New Zealanders battle with some form of mental illness—from stress and anxiety to depression, Zoe explains how there’s been a ‘she'll be right’ attitude in the past to mental health issues in sport, but now, NZ Rugby has launched a campaign called Headfirst to openly discuss the ‘black dog’, and Black Ferns Sevens player Ruby Tui tells us why this is important; especially when faced with performance anxiety and the inevitable disappointment of being dropped from a team. As usually, Zoe and Sophie have all the latest news and views from sportswomen on and off the field.
Special thanks to Radio New Zealand for hosting the show and Producer Laura Beth Keown.
