A native of the Bronx, New York, Lee earned her MD from Yale University School of Medicine and was Chief Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is the former Director of Research for the Study of Violence (Harvard, U.Penn, NYU and Yale) and co-founded the Violence and Study Group at Yale University (MacMillan Center for International Studies). She earned her MDiv from Yale Divinity School (1995).

Bandy has been a consulted for violence prevention in prisons and community with the governments of Ireland, France, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

Two of Bandy's notable publications (World Health Organization) are:

1) Violence, health and the 2030 Agenda: Merging evidence and implementation: LINK

2) Transforming Our World: Implementing the 2030 Agenda Through Sustainable Development Goal indicators: LINK

Lee's book (below) has opened-up debate regarding the definition and interpretation of the Goldwater Rule.
