On this week’s Truth To Power, we gather in the virtual studio for a community conversation with members of the Food In Neighborhoods coalition about land access for food production in the city. The group has just produced a Land Access Guide to help folks like our guest Steven Edwards, a Russell resident, educator, activist, and aspiring urban farmer. Steven is facing huge roadblocks to purchasing land from the city of Louisville’s Land Bank to grow food in the Russell neighborhood. His struggle points out the structural racism in Metro Land Bank policies which make it exceedingly difficult for folks in the West End to acquire vacant city-owned land. Along with Steven, you cohosts, Justin Mog (Sustainability Now!) and Hart Hagan (The Climate Report / Let’s Talk) are joined by FIN members Abby Rudolph, a new UofL PhD student in Urban & Public Affairs, focused on sustainable development, and Andrew Kang Bartlett, Associate for National Hunger Concerns, with the Presbyterian Hunger Program.
