Friedrich Von Schiller. Algún día me atreveré a hacerlo en alemán.
La Oda a la alegría nació como poema en 1785 de la mano del alemán Friedrich Von Schiller, poeta, historiador, filósofo y dramaturgo.
Beethoven, que compartía los ideales humanistas del poeta, adaptó el poema y lo incluyó en el cuarto movimiento de su Novena Sinfonía.
El 19 de Mayo de 1985 la Unión Europea adoptó la versión del director austriaco Herbert von Karajan como Himno Europeo.
La partitura original de la Novena Sinfonía, que se conserva casi completa en la Biblioteca Estatal de Berlín, fue declarada por la Unesco Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad en 2003.
