Project MK-Ultra was the code name given to a program of experiments on human subjects that were designed and undertaken by the CIA some of which were illegal. These experiments on humans were intended to develop procedures and identify drugs such as LSD to be used in interrogations in order to weaken the individual and force confessions through brainwashing and psychological torture. The ultimate goal of MK-Ultra was to achieve total mind control, to create 'Manchurian Candidates' or 'sleeper cells' who could be activated as mindless automatons to carry out orders. Plus, its no surprise that MK-Ultra has been linked or wrapped up in hundreds of conspiracy theories. In part one of our series, we have to start from the beginning, with the origins of the drug, LSD and a grain of truth.
