When my mother was dying, she asked an older friend of mine who has both feet on the ground and is just a good person - "when I'm gone, will you please take care of Colleen, because she is going to be alone." The lady said, "of course I will!" She stepped up to the plate and became my "mom." We have gotten awfully close as well - were close to begin with and had been family friends for years. Ironically, my husband and son built a wheelchair ramp onto her house for her husband that was only used once - when he died, 7 months before my husband died.”
