Ein gong blei den grønlandske innlandsisen sett på som ein barriere som var umuleg for menneska å komme over. Så kryssa Fridtjof Nansen isen. Seinare forsøkte han å kopiere bragda i internasjonal politikk, både gjennom humanitært arbeid og som frontfigur for Nansenpasset, som skulle bidra til å frakte flyktningar over den innlandsisen som flukt, asyl og eksil ofte utgjer i ein polarisert internasjonal politikk. I dag har vi Middelhavet som parallell, eit hav der titusen av menneske på flukt har drukna, ein innlandsis, ikkje på verdskartet, men i hjarta til folk. Kan vi i dag hente inspirasjon hos Fridtjof Nansen, eller vil ei samtidig utgåve av eit Nansenpass bli avvist som eit Nonsenspass?
Carsten Jensen er ein dansk forfattar, journalist og samfunnsdebattant. Han har motteke ei rekke prisar og utmerkingar, og markert seg i kampen for menneskeverd og mot politisk undertrykking.
