A YOUmedia podcast created and hosted by Kanyinsola Anifowoshe talks to young creatives about what inspires, motivates, and excites them about their work. In this episode, I'm chatting with Bella Masterson and Bella Kiser, organizers of Teen Artist's Creative Oasis— an arts open for performing and visual artists under 21. We’re talking about adults in the art world, the logistics of organizing such amazing events, keeping each other grounded, and the origins of TACO! TACO's next event ("Local Landscapes") is THIS SUNDAY at 950 W Lake (under the Morgan Pink/Green Line station), with a gallery opening at 3pm and music opening at 5pm. There is a $5 suggested donation, with all proceeds benefitting SocialWorks Chicago. You can keep up with TACO through: - their website: https://www.tacoplanet.org - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tacoplanetchicago/ - and RSVP to the Facebook event: www.facebook.com%2Fevents%2F416025552249320&e=ATOGQgQrDP9jI6V1Ha0vW06h-Se_62jN5JlVnTi-VdyaWDxfMb4Hy6Bc6Jyp6mT2KZeGgDo4lmJfHLPJ -- I'd like to apologize because in a lot of my episodes I tend to ask people how they manage their work on top of “attending selective schools.” By using this phrase, I’m playing into a system that values the education of selective enrollment schools in Chicago over neighborhood schools, in a system that’s full of inequities regarding race, class, ability, gender, and other societal labels. That’s messed up and I apologize for that, and am moving towards moving different language in the future. Thank you all for rocking with me through this journey <3
