Jake Mitchell is the host of the Flight Of Thoughts podcast. He is currently working at two supervised injection sites in Toronto performing overdose response, crisis counseling, and harm reduction work; while teaching Basic Life Support skills, Mental Health First Aid, and various addiction/mental health workshops. Jake has several years of clinical experience as a paramedic and provides peer support through Boots On The Ground. This with his growing experience in social service work has allowed him to form an open-minded, empathetic, trauma-informed approach to caring for others. He is parlaying towards working with psychedelic-assisted therapy and community crisis response. Jake and I discuss PTSD amongst first responders and in the medical community. If you work in public safety, this is a MUST-LISTEN. We discuss causality, projections of our own insecurities onto others (often our patients), confirmation bias of vulnerable and marginalized populations, and the emerging research in psychedelic-assisted therapy for the treatment of PTSD, depression, substance abuse, and more. This was a fascinating discussion with an extremity charismatic provider. I can say with confidence that Jake truly cares about this topic and puts his heart into the work. This was a simulcasted podcast for mine as well as his show, Flight of Thoughts. It was an interesting back-and-forth because, for a large portion of the session, Jake turned the tables and interviewed me! This will be the last session for a few weeks while I recharge my batteries and get some interviews ready to go for the rest of the summer. In the intro, I discuss sponsorship, the book raffle for Mark Townsend and Arthur Haines, and upcoming episodes including a local psychiatrist who leads the Child Advocate in Divorce (CAID) classes here in St. Joesph County, IN. Thank you for your patronage, sponsorship, and ratings/comments if you are so inclined.
