In January of 2022, the National Public Pension Coalition released a comprehensive report chronicling the failure of the 401(k) defined-contribution plan as a retirement vehicle. While never meant to be a sole means of retirement, many private sector entities have gone away from the more stable defined-benefit pension plan. This report focuses on states and municipalities that have eliminated pensions and are now having to adjust to the fact that the move simply didn't work.
