In this episode of the podcast, I go solo and discuss the field of TYA from my perspective!
A little about me. I am a middle school theatre teacher in Salt Lake City at the states most wonderfully diverse middle school. I have a BA in Theatre Arts Education from Brigham Young University and an MFA in Theatre focused on Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) from the University of Central Florida. I have been exposed to many wonderful people through TYA and have been involved in touring TYA productions, working with professional TYA companies, presented at international conferences such as ATHE and AATE about topics like divising, improvisation and TYA. I have a TYA play under submission with Pioneer Drama, and in my free time I like playing board games with my wonderful wife and four little Savages.
This episode is focused on getting your toes wet in the field of TYA and talking about TYA from my own lens. It gives the listener insight into the field that may be useful and insightful, and it contextualizes the experiences I have with TYA as the host of this podcast. While it is unfortunately just an hour of my own voice, I think it is insightful and a practical starting point for understanding the field of TYA. For this episode only, I'm without my illustrious sound engineer, Darius Fletcher, so if the sound quality is substandard, blame that! Thanks for listening.
