“We live in a beautiful world.” In Episode 31, Kiara welcomes her high school pal and musical soul mate Endrita to the pod to review the timeless debut record from Coldplay, Parachutes (2000). On the 20th anniversary of this alt-rock masterpiece, we discuss how this simple, unassuming album resonated with us while living through a global pandemic: forthcoming in its messages on coping with anxiety, the importance of a strong support system, and the power of positive thinking. And due to Chris Martin’s dreamy falsetto, his spellbinding lyricism, and the incomparable evolution of the band in their twenty-year career, we have to conclude that everything’s not lost. So we toast to movies that are perfect for a good ol’ ugly cry, fan-made YouTube videos with stellar soundtracks, and Machine Gun Kelly – with our Parachute cocktails held on high (and it was all yellow).
