Manage episode 323231843 series 3306747
Santy Mathews from Pune, India who did just that. He has been alcohol free since 2018 & smoke free since 2021. He is extremely vocal & proud of his sobriety, as he should be. Each one is a huge achievement.
“Alcohol came into my life in my early 20’s,” he says, “at my corporate job. I had to entertain clients almost every other day. 2018 was my year of reckoning. Alcohol was running & ruining my life. I used each, every & any excuse to drink & started looking like a scarecrow. I realized that if I didn’t help myself I would permanently ruin my relationship with my 2 teenage (@ that time)sons & my entire family.
I got help. I sought therapy & realigned my life. I completely cut out alcohol & so-called drinking friends & stopped going to places I was frequenting every night. Now I’m extremely careful of what I put into my body.
I start my day at 4:30 am with a 10k run & lift basic weights at home. I haven't stepped into a gym since 2002. I don't believe in running in a group or with anyone or working out with a partner. My basic philosophy is that you are your biggest competitor. If you don't control your own mind it's all worthless & only YOU & YOU alone can do that!!
I setup @sereneliving.pune during the pandemic. It serves as a sober house that mentors men & women of all ages as alcoholism does not discriminate across language, religion, caste, socioeconomic background or gender. I am currently looking to expand & bring new people on board to strengthen the recovery and life skills aspects in the house & program. It’s my way to give back to the community & help others get their lives back on track.
I love what I do!
My Sister, late Dad, & Mother were my biggest supporters in my journey into sobriety.
My daily schedule is pretty much regimented: Wake-up at 4:30 am ..10k run, Basic weights at home, daily work schedule, plated & weighed meals, Lights out by 10 ish.
At 53 I am a sober single dad & the fittest I have ever been in my life. I feel superb.”💜
My sister ,late Dad & Mom are my biggest supporters in my Sobriety Journey.
